our story

Laughter has the power to heal, but behind the curtain, many comedians face struggles that can’t be fixed with a punchline. The world of comedy is as exhilarating as it is unforgiving: the grind of life on the road, the pressures of performing under the spotlight, and the temptations of endless access to substances that can dull pain but never erase it. The highs are euphoric, but the lows can feel insurmountable, and too often, we’ve seen the toll it takes on those who bring us so much joy.

Comedian Psychotherapy is inspired by the heartbreaking loss of comedic greats who left us far too soon like Greg Giraldo, Patrice O’Neal, Chris Farley, Mitch Hedberg, and many more stand as painful reminders of lives cut too short. We mourned equally for the older icons we’d come to see as fixtures who’s life ended too soon: Robin Williams, Bob Saget, Norm Macdonald, John Candy, Phil Hartman, Bill Hicks, Bernie Mac, Gilda Radner, Sam Kinison, John Belushi, and more. Each loss reverberated, a reminder of the emotional weight comedians carry while making the world laugh. We’ll never know what could have been had they received unconditional support in a space that was safe to take the persona off even if only for a minute.

We are equally inspired by the “walking well” and “walking wounded” - those who are with us doing great and looking for support and those who are living each day in pain, unsure how to hold their pain or how to regulate as needed. This group is who we are focused on working with.

Our practice was born from a deep love of comedy and a profound respect for the artists who dedicate their lives to it. We recognized the need for a space tailored to comedians—one where the unique challenges of this subculture are understood and addressed with care. Here, the open mic never closes, and the therapy room is a judgment-free zone.

We specialize in helping comedians navigate the intricate and often isolating world of their craft. Whether it’s coping with the loneliness of constant travel, managing the pressures of fame, or addressing addiction, anxiety, and depression, our mission is to provide the support and tools comedians need to thrive both on and off the stage.

We believe that behind every great joke is a story worth honoring, and behind every comedian is a person deserving of compassion, care, and healing. This is more than therapy; it’s a commitment to the well-being of those who make the world brighter, one laugh at a time.
